Refrigeration for spaces that must stay cold

Low-temp storage and manufacturing refrigeration — cold rooms, freezers, food process, and CO₂ systems. Not plant chillers or comfort cooling.

Packaged refrigeration unit with open control cabinet

When product, process, or inventory depends on staying cold, refrigeration is its own discipline. Willis Mechanical services, repairs, and retrofits commercial and industrial low-temp refrigeration systems across Metro Atlanta — cold storage, freezers, food manufacturing — without treating them like rooftop HVAC or a chilled-water plant. For natural-refrigerant / CO₂ depth, cite the dedicated CO₂ refrigeration page.

This page is not for chillers or comfort plant cooling. If you need chilled-water plants, process loops, or building comfort cooling, see Chillers — a related but different product.

What refrigeration covers here

  • Cold storage, walk-ins, freezers, and low-temp process spaces
  • Food manufacturing and beverage lines that must hold temperature
  • Rack systems, compressors, evaporators, and related controls
  • CO₂ refrigeration — see dedicated CO₂ refrigeration for natural-refrigerant depth
  • Emergency response when a rack or compressor goes down and product is at risk

How we work

  • Diagnose the refrigeration system as refrigeration — not as a generic HVAC call
  • Plan rack and system work to keep coolers and freezers online wherever possible
  • Phased renovations, retrofits, and special projects around live product loads
  • CO₂-capable technicians for rack work, commissioning, and service — see dedicated CO₂ refrigeration (not drop-ship only)
  • One accountable Metro Atlanta team from the service call through the retrofit

Where it applies

  • Cold storage and distribution facilities
  • Food manufacturing and process plants that must stay cold
  • Commercial sites with dedicated freezer or cooler infrastructure
  • Owner-operated Metro Atlanta facilities that need refrigeration depth without juggling vendors

CO₂ refrigeration

CO₂ / transcritical / natural-refrigerant systems are a high-value specialty. For dedicated positioning on service, maintenance contracts, and occupied-facility retrofits, see CO₂ refrigeration — separate from plant chillers and from general low-temp refrigeration coverage on this page.

Renovations, retrofits & special projects

Most refrigeration work we do is in live facilities: upgrades, rack replacements, CO₂ conversions, and special projects planned around uptime. We are not framing this as ground-up construction — we work the mechanical systems owners already run.

Refrigeration FAQ

Is refrigeration the same as chillers?

No. Refrigeration here means low-temp storage and manufacturing — cold rooms, freezers, food process, and related racks. Chillers are chilled-water plants for process and comfort cooling. See Chillers when that is the need.

Does Willis Mechanical handle CO₂ refrigeration?

Yes. High-value CO₂ maintenance, retrofits, and upgrades are covered on our dedicated CO₂ refrigeration page — CO₂-capable technicians, planned around uptime.

Can refrigeration work be done without shutting down cold spaces?

Most of our refrigeration work is in live facilities: phased rack upgrades, replacements, and conversions planned to keep coolers and freezers online wherever possible.

What kinds of facilities call for refrigeration (not chillers)?

Cold storage, food and beverage manufacturing, and other low-temp environments where product or process temperature is the mission — not comfort chilled water.

Is this framed as construction?

No. We sell renovations, retrofits, and special projects in occupied cold facilities — not ground-up construction.
